Curtain rises tonight on MAUHS Drama Club's 'Almost, Maine'

BENNINGTON — The MAUHS Drama Club performs their last play of the season, "Almost, Maine" by John Cariani, tonight, Friday and Saturday. The play is a romantic comedy, comprising nine short plays that explore love and loss in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. It premiered to critical acclaim at the Portland Stage Company in Portland, Maine, in 2004 where it broke box office records. Since then, the play has been produced by over 90 professional theater companies and by nearly 4,000 non-professional theater organizations across the United States and around the world.

The play is the last Drama Club production to be directed by CDC Theatre Arts instructor and Drama Club adviser Tim Foley, as he retires this year after 20 years of bringing outstanding plays and musicals to the Bennington community. The MAU Drama Club is a very active group of talented and creative students. They produce at least 3 shows each year, usually a Fall Musical, a Winter Drama and a Spring Comedy or Improv. Past productions include "The Addams Family," "Les Mis rables," "Oliver!," and many more. Club members are involved in all other aspects of theater including set construction, costumes, props, sound and lights.

Showtimes are tonight, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased online (at, at the high school main office, or at the door. For more information, call 802-447-7511.
