Good day, Bennington County!

We've got some rain in the forecast for the next couple of days, but fear not: The sun should return in time for the statewide Maple Open House Weekend.

It's been an on-again, off-again week in the life of Southern Vermont College. Five days after filing notice that it would appeal a decision to strip SVC of its accreditation, the trustees reversed course after reviewing a plan by a "potential partner/acquirer."

In a case that could have statewide ramifications, a lawyer for the first person charged under the state's new ban on the purchase of high-capacity magazines has filed an appeal, arguing that the law is unconstitutional.

Should Bennington adopt a ban on single-use plastic bags? That was the topic of discussion for a dozen or so people who attended a brainstorming session this week.
