Parade organized at Veterans' Home

Community members, families and friends are invited to take part in a vehicle parade for resident veterans and members at the Vermont Veterans' Home on Saturday, April 4.Organizers ask that participants line up in the back parking lot of the Veterans' Home at 2 p.m. They also ask that people stay in their vehicles at all times.

Solid Waste Alliance to meet electronically

The Bennington County Solid Waste Alliance will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 from 4 to 6 p.m. Given the current COVID-19 restrictions, this meeting will be held electronically and members of the public can participate via phone or the Internet.

Students invited to enter Earth Day Essay Contest

Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park invites students to participate in an essay contest in honor of the 50th annual Earth Day on April 22. The theme for the Earth Day Essay Contest is Climate Crisis.

There are three categories: high school, middle school, and elementary school. High school entries must be no longer than 650 words. Middle school entries must be no longer than 500 words. Elementary school entries must include a minimum of 10 sentences and accompanying illustrations are also encouraged. The contest winner from each of the categories will receive a $50 cash prize.

The deadline for entries is April 9. Winners will be announced in mid-May. Submissions may be mailed to Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park at 80 Scout Road, Gansevoort, NY 12831 or emailed to Please include the student's name, grade level, teacher's name, and school that they attend. Also include the address, email, and phone contact information with the submission.
