On April 7 the community is invited to Bowl For Kids' Sake at Bennington Lanes. This year's event is themed "The Fantastic 50s." Funds raised allow Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bennington County to continue to support mentoring matches and provide ongoing assistance to mentors, mentees and families. Local businesses can support the event by becoming sponsors, donating prizes and encouraging employees to create teams. Registration is $10; bowlers are encouraged to raise $50 in pledges. Tax assistance available
BROC Community Action is offering free tax assistance at their offices at 332 Orchard Road, Bennington. If you make $54,000 or less, are a person with a disability or are elderly, they can prepare and file Federal income tax returns, Vermont State income tax returns, homestead declarations and property tax adjustment claims, household income schedules and renter rebate claims. Community Bank N.A. branches across New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Massachusetts have joined together to host a canned food drive throughout February. Participating local branches include Bennington, Rutland Green Mountain Plaza and Rutland Woodstock Avenue. To participate in the food drive, bring your nonperishable canned food items to your local Community Bank N.A. by Feb. 28.
Tax assistance available
AARP Foundation is again providing free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers across Vermont with low to moderate income through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program. You do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this service. Trained counselors are ready to help Vermonters file electronically and get the refunds they deserve where appropriate.
