Winterfest seeking participants

North Adams Annual WinterFest celebration, planned for Feb. 17 and 18, is seeking participants to take part in several events. Applications are being accepted through Feb. 5 for the annual Chowder Cook-off and the Handmade Artisan and Farmers Market. Chowder Cook-off participants must be licensed by the city and chowder must be prepared in a licensed commercial kitchen. Chowders are voted on for People's Choice Awards, Judges' Choice Awards, and the "Only in North Adams" Award for most unusual chowder. Artisan and Farmers Market applicants must hand-make their goods to be eligible to vend at the market. Additionally, the city is seeking sponsors for ice blocks to be carved, and artists/craftspeople to carve them. Sponsorship of an ice block costs $80 for a laminated 8.5"x11" company sign mounted to a wooden base in front of the ice sculpture. Accepting submissions

The Valley Players are now accepting submissions for their 2018 Vermont Playwrights Award. The intent of the award is to promote the theater arts and to encourage and support the creation of original plays by residents of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The annual deadline for submission is Feb. 1. Award submissions must be a full-length, non-musical play suitable for production by a community theater company. The play must not have been previously published or produced. Battenkill Chorale invites new singers

The Battenkill Chorale is accepting experienced choral singers for their spring concert, featuring a program of Belgian and French music for chorus, brass and organ. The concerts will be held on May 12 and 13. New members accepted through Feb. 16.

The Battenkill Chorale has open enrollment, with auditions for vocal placement and solos only. Singers should be experienced choral singers possessing good sight-reading skills and vocal technique. Rehearsals are Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:45 p.m.. The first rehearsal on Feb. 1 is at Cambridge United Presbyterian Church, 81 East Main St., Cambridge, N.Y.
