Bennington man facing new charge in fatal OD

BENNINGTON - A man charged in the fatal overdose of a local woman has pleaded not guilty to a new criminal count: possessing 1 gram or more of heroin.

George Guile, 51, was initially charged - along with his wife Jennifer Guile - with manslaughter and dispensing heroin resulting in the death of 33-year-old Amie Pero last month. He and Jennifer have pleaded not guilty to their charges. George was arraigned on his third charge April 3 at the Bennington County Superior Court.

Police said Pero lost consciousness in a taxi March 1 after buying and snorting heroin at the Bennington motel room where the couple lived. Pero died after being removed from life support three days later.

George is detained at the Marble Valley correctional facility in Rutland in lieu of a $100,000 bond, according to court records. He has a jury drawing scheduled for October. Jennifer is incarcerated at the Chittenden correctional facility in South Burlington in lieu of a $75,000 bond. Her jury drawing is set for September.
