Bennington Horseshoe Club competes in VT state championships
BRISTOL — The Bennington Horseshoe Club participated in this weekend's Vermont state championships at the Sodbusters Horseshoe Pitching Club.
In the Men's B division, Wade Hill was third overall with a 3-2 record, hitting 38.79 percent of his shots for ringers.
In the Men's C division, Joe Hill was fourth, with Jeffrey Woodcock fifth and Leon O'Dell seventh. Hill and Woodcock both went 4-3, while O'Dell was 3-4.
Jeremy Mentiply was fourth in the Men's F division, going 3-3 overall, while Jeremy Lapan was fifth at 2-4.
In the Women's B division, Samantha Coleman finished third at 2-3, hitting 35.26 percent of her shots for ringers.
In the Women's C division, Cindy Drake was second at 4-1, while Bonnie Davis was sixth, going 0-5.
MAUMS football sign-ups
BENNINGTON — Mount Anthony Middle School Football sign-ups are on Wednesday and Friday from 5 to 6:15 p.m. at the middle school.
Practice begins on August 26.
Referee training offered
LUDLOW — Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Vermont Soccer Officials Association and becoming eligible to officiate Varsity soccer games is encouraged to attend one of two remaining training sessions in Southern Vermont.
The next training will be held at the Maxfield Sports Complex on August 14 at 4 p.m. and the last training will be at White River Unified High School in South Royalton, on August 24 at 8:30 a.m. The training includes learning the rules of the game, a test, and a field practice. You also receive follow up support and a mentor. The cost of the program is $75, which includes the cost of the membership in the VSOA for this year, the training, and insurance.

Hoyt Charity Golf Tournament
MANCHESTER — The 28th Annual Win Hoyt Charity Golf Tournament will be held Wednesday, September 18 at the Ekwanok Country Club.
Registration opens at 11 a.m., lunch is at 12 p.m. and players tee off at 12:30 p.m.
The tournament is named in memory of Win Hoyt, a long-time Manchester resident and former Director of the Chamber.
In 1970, Win took over the Caddie Scholarship Program at Ekwanok and provided leadership until his death in 1989.
Proceeds will be divided equally between Bennington County Habitat for Humanity and the Manchester Community Library.
Cost to play is $150; sponsorship opportunities are available at different levels.

Red Sox legend Lonborg to host golf tournament
BOLTON, Mass. — The fourth annual Sunrise to Sunset Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament to benefit cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will take place on August 21 at The International Golf Club & Resort in Bolton, Mass.
Golfers can sign up for this 36-hole fundraiser as individuals or with a group. Players have the choice to play a scramble or their own ball on The International's two premier courses, The Oaks and The Pines.
Red Sox Legend and 1967 Cy Young Award Winner Jim Lonborg will serve as the celebrity host and play in this year's tournament.
All golfers agree to raise a minimum of $1,100, including a $100 registration fee, and will play with one shared mission — supporting the lifesaving work at Dana-Farber.
Top fundraisers and golfers are eligible to receive great prizes including golfing events and other unique experiences.
