Bennington announces construction road closures

BENNINGTON — A number of town streets will be closed to traffic this coming week as road and utility work continues.

Dewey Street between Monument Avenue and Hospital Drive will be closed to through traffic for the next six weeks, according to town manager Stuart Hurd. Local traffic will be accommodated Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Division Street and Grove Street will also be closed to through traffic all of this coming week, as work crews will be pouring concrete sidewalks and driveway aprons. Local traffic will be accommodated on both streets.

On Grandview Street, a private contractor is scheduled to pave at some point this coming week, with traffic reduced to one lane. Motorists are advised to expect delays.

Coolidge Avenue will be closed to through traffic on Monday, when work crews will be digging a sewer line, and will be reduced to one lane later in the week when a private contractor repaves the street.

And on Wednesday and Thursday, weather permitting, sewer crews are scheduled to rebuild and repair manholes on Jefferson Avenue. Drivers as asked to use caution and expect delays, as workers and equipment will be in the road.

The town will continue to flush fire hydrants on Monday and Tuesday. Some may lose pressure or experience discolored water, but the town says these are normal side effects. Please only run cold water to restore water.
