MANCHESTER — The awards keep on piling up for Burr and Burton's Joey McCoy after an outstanding 2019 football season. On Tuesday, McCoy was named as one of six 2019 Vermont High School Scholar Athlete Inductees.

The award, presented by the Vermont Chapter of the National Football Foundation, highlights student-athletes who excelled both in the classroom and on the gridiron.

McCoy led the Bulldogs to their first ever Division I state championship in 2019, and he did it in a variety of ways. McCoy led BBA on the offensive side of the ball while playing QB, throwing for 2,561 yards and 37 touchdowns. He was just as lethal with his feet, registering a team-high 762 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. The Bulldogs averaged just under 50 points a game with McCoy under center in 2019.

His contributions didn't end there. McCoy was also the anchor for the Bulldogs defense, splitting time at linebacker and strong safety. He recorded a team-high 88 tackles. He also led BBA with 10 pass break-ups, while finishing second in interceptions with three.
