Grace Christian School holds inaugural 'Happy' Race

BENNINGTON — Grace Christian School hosted its inaugural Grace "Happy" Race 5K & Family Fun Run on Saturday, as part of RiseVT's "Rise to the Challenge" series of events. The start and finish lines for both races were at the school, located at 104 Kocher Drive.

The event was focused on bringing families together while getting active, and all participants were encouraged to come dressed in their "Happiest" attire. GCS also received an Amplify Grant from RiseVT in support of the effort, and a portion of the race proceeds are designated for new sports and playground equipment to continue to promote healthy living after the event.

"We are so thrilled with the community enthusiasm and support of our first 5K and Family Fun Run," said Shawn Smith, the school's administrator. "We wanted to offer a community-oriented event that helps to promote healthy living — with lots of support and encouragement along the route."

Each Fun Run participant was awarded a commemorative medallion for their efforts upon crossing the finish line. In honor of SVC Appreciation Day, donations were also collected at the event in support of staff and faculty of Southern Vermont College.

The Family Fun Run was sponsored by Thayer Leadership Development Group, HL Fuels/HL Propane, Advanced Eyecare, Walmart Giving, RK Miles, Bennington Dental Center, Maple Leaf Realty, Bennington Cooling & Heating and Price Chopper. Anytime Fitness also contributed giveaways for a drawing for all 5k participants and TD Bank provided volunteers to assist with the event.
