Shaftsbury Historical Society celebrates birthday of Gov. Galusha


SHAFTSBURY — The Shaftsbury Historical Society will hold a birthday celebration for Gov. Jonas Galusha on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Gov. Jonas Galusha Homestead, located at 3871 Route 7A. English Tea will be served, along with punch, cake and scones.

Galusha, born on Feb. 11, 1753, was the sixth and eighth governor of Vermont, serving two terms in the early 19th century.

The imposing Homestead in Center Shaftsbury is one of Vermont's architectural treasures. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is now the home of the Shaftsbury Historical Society.

The community is invited to take a journey into the history of Shaftsbury, Vermont with special guest, Gov. Galusha and his friends. They will share life and times through their eyes.

Tours will be given of the Governor's Homestead, and there will be a quilting demonstration by Dear Jane Sewing Circle.
