Community members took part in carol singing, hot drinks, an illuminated walk and homemade cookies as part of this year's lighting of the community Christmas tree at the Vermont Veterans' Home on Wednesday. The evening began with a new event, a lantern stroll from the Bennington Area Makerspace to the Veterans' Home. A caroling stop at the new pocket park at 336 Main St. added more fun. The tree lighting ceremony was held on the Veterans' Home front yard. The tree, with more than 2,000 feet of energy-efficient lights, has been lit by the home for the past few years now. Also featured at the community tree lighting ceremony were the Mount Anthony Union High School choir, hot chocolate, keynote dignitaries, and a special visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, too. An open house following the ceremony at the nearby Bennington Regional Chamber of Commerce featured musical performances and more.
