Ahlfeld named head of The Mountain School at Winhall

WINHALL — Peter Ahlfeld has been named head of the Mountain School at Winhall, the school's board of trustees announced.

Ahlfeld has been assistant head of the school, which educates children from pre-kindergarten through Grade 8, since 2011.

"I am excited to expand my role at MSW, a school I know and love. As a teacher, administrator, and former parent at MSW, I have seen firsthand the power of this learning community," Ahlfeld said in a news release issued by the school's board of trustees. "I am excited to bring the knowledge and experience I've gained in my career to this leadership position at the Mountain School."

Ahlfeld, who has worked at all levels of education from kindergarten through college, values the opportunities the Mountain School can offer its students.

"I love the creativity in curriculum and the individualization of instruction afforded to us as an independent school, while we serve, at the same time, as a public institution," he said, according to the release. "We have a strong sense of community, teachers who are dedicated to excellence, and a wonderful partnership with our families."

"We are confident Peter's long career as an educator, and his teaching and administrative experiences, will serve us well in leading MSW through this new phase in its history," board of trustees chairman Ian Jones said of the appointment, according to the release. "We know, without a doubt, that with Peter's guidance, and under his direction, The Mountain School will flourish."
