POWNAL -- The annual "Moonlight in Vermont" midnight road race returns the night of Saturday, Aug. 4, along with the Community Ramble, giving both runners and walkers the opportunity to participate in the light of the full moon.
The four-mile road race begins at the stroke of midnight from the Pownal Valley fire station at the top of the hill on Route 7 in Pownal Center. The course follows secondary paved and dirt roads through the hills and dales of rural Pownal, with luminaries positioned at regular intervals to keep runners on course.
Awards will be given to overall male and female winners, as well as the top three finishers in seven age categories. In recent years, the run has featured a mix of fast, competitive runners -- both local and visitors to the area -- and casual fun runners. The non-competitive two-mile Community Ramble will begin at 12:10 a.m.
Prizes will be awarded to the first, youngest and oldest Pownal residents -- and the individual judged "Most Visible in the Moonlight" -- and door prizes will be offered. Commemorative T-shirts will be given to pre-registered runners and walkers, and refreshments will be available after the race.
The events are being organized by the Batten Kill Valley Runners and Pownal community members to benefit the Pownal Valley Fire Department and are sponsored in part by Vermont Moonlight Cookies.
The entry fee is $15 for pre-registration and $18 on race night. BKVR members, students and Pownal residents receive a $3 discount. Check-in begins at 10:30 p.m. Applications are available at www.bkvr.org and the Solomon Wright Public Library.
SVC basketball camp
BENNINGTON -- Southern Vermont College will host the Mountaineer basketball camp the week of August 6. The camp will focus on individual skill development and fundamentals of team play.
The camp will be run by head coach Mike McDonough and assistant coach Dave Bromirski, along with former and current Mountaineer players.
It will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon each day and is for students grades 5-9. The cost is $100 and participants will receive an SVC T-shirt and personalized camp evaluation.

BENNINGTON -- A golf tournament to benefit Mickey Carmody "The Quick," will take place July 24 at noon at Mount Anthony Country Club. The cost is $100 per player (Member or Non Member), which includes cart, greens fees, prizes, and cocktail reception.

Mount Anthony Girls Lacrosse Camp
BENNINGTON -- There will be a girls lacrosse camp from July 16th to July 19th at Mount Anthony Middle School for girls ages 6 to 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Equipment is available if needed.

SVC baseball camp
BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont College baseball team is hosting their camp from July 30 to August 3 at Bill Epstein Field.
There will be two separate sessions: 9 a.m. to noon for elementary age and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for players grades 7-12.
The cost of the camp is $95 and will be run by the SVC baseball team and coaching staff. Everyone who participates receives a free T-shirt.

Zem's summer meets
BENNINGTON -- Following a tradition started more than 30 years ago by longtime Mount Anthony Union High School track coach Steve Zemianek, Kathleen Newton and Tony Napolitano are pleased to announce the return of "Coach Zem's Summer Track Meets."
These meets are open to the general public and will be held the following two Wednesdays. There is no charge to participate and individuals of all ages are encouraged to join in the fun.
Meets will begin at 7 p.m. at the Zemianek Track at MAU. Events this summer will include the 50-meter dash, the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter run, the 800-meter run, the 1600-meter run and the 3200- meter run.

Junior golf camp
BENNINGTON -- Mount Anthony Country Club head pro Doug Ruttle will hold instructional camps for junior golfers between ages 8 and 16 this summer.
One session takes place from July 16 to 19; the other is set for Aug. 14 to 17. A session costs $99 per junior golfer, payable to Douglas A. Ruttle, PGA. Sign-up forms are available at the golf course.
Beanbag charity tournament at Ramuntos
BENNINGTON -- The Purple Pride of Vermont will host a cornhole tournament at Ramuntos on Main Street in Bennington to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project and the local Veterans Outreach Center.
The tournament will be on July 14 and cost $25 to register. The money is used for registration, two drinks, a goodie bag and chances to win prizes.
Check in is at noon and the tournament begins at 1 p.m.

Benn Basketball School
BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School boys basketball team is hosting its 41st annual summer camp.
The camp will take place from July 16-20 at the Mount Anthony high school gym.
There are two sessions: one in the morning for kids ages 12-15 from 8 a.m. to noon and one in the afternoon for 7 to 11 year olds from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The camp costs $110 per camper and includes a t-shirt and a ball.

Summer tennis camps
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Tennis Center is hosting summer youth camps for kids ages 8 to 18. There will be five different sessions -- July 17-20, July 24-27, July 31-Aug. 3, Aug. 7-10 and Aug. 14-17.
The camps, led by pros Seth Gabriel and Dan Rowe, run Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Kids will participate in various warm up activities followed by drills, games and other tennis-related activities.

Arlington Soccer Camp takes place in July
ARLINGTON -- The Arlington Soccer Camp enters its 35th year this summer, resuming for Arlington area youth players from July 23 to 27. For children entering first grade through seventh grade, the camp goes from 9 a.m. to noon each day at the Fisher school fields.
The cost is $90 per child ($60 per each additional sibling). The camp, directed by Castleton State College men's soccer coach John Werner, teaches skills and tactics through fun games with emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship and fun.

Storm hosting youth football camp
BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont Storm is hosting a youth football camp from August 6-9.
The camp, for kids 8 to 12 years old, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the the Vermont Veterans Home on North Street.
Former Mount Anthony Union High School football coach and Storm player Jim Fischer will work with the kids to teach the fundamentals and techniques of football. It will also provide instruction on all aspects of the game such as running, throwing, catching, blocking, tackling and speed drills.
Current Storm and MAU players will also be at the camp. The cost is $60. Shoulder pads and helmets will be supplied, so players are asked to bring cleats, mouth guard, shorts and football pants.
Blue Lollipop Road
SHAFTSBURY -- The Blue Lollipop Road Reunion Soccer Weekend will take place on August 17 and 18 at Howard Park in Shaftsbury.
After a welcome party on the 17th at Madison's, a Strong Mojo Summit and a memorial scholarship will be awarded.
The scholarship is in memory of former Mount Anthony Union High School soccer players Maria Greene and Brandy Brown, killed in a car accident in 1994.
At 1 p.m., there will be an alumni soccer game at Howard Park for any alumni who want to play.
