POWNAL — Vermont State Police have released information concerning an accident Nov. 7 in Pownal involving an ATV and a dirt bike that seriously injured the ATV rider.

“The incident was reported at about 5:10 p.m. Nov. 7 in a private field on Thompson Pond Road in Pownal and involved a collision between an ATV and a dirt bike,” said Adam Silverman, VSP public information officer.

He said an 8-year-old boy was driving the ATV when it struck a rock or some other obstruction, then hit the dirt bike, which was being ridden by a 12-year-old boy.

The 8-year-old was thrown from the ATV and seriously injured, he said, and the boy was airlifted for treatment at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center.

The 12-year-old sustained minor injuries, the spokesman said.

A spokeswoman at Albany Medical Center said the hospital could not request a release of patient information without the name of the person.

Silverman said the names were not released because of the age of those involved in the accident.
