The battle over a woman's right to an abortion is as intense and long-running as any in American history. Gary Trudeau, the creator of the comic strip "Doonesbury," leaves no doubt in a series of panels this week where he stands on recent attempts by conservatives in several states to restrict or discourage abortions.

For this reason, the strip will run on the Banner editorial page all week, not the comics and entertainment page. We also hope these harsh and hard-hitting commentaries will provoke debate among readers.

Do you agree that state laws designed to delay abortions or force a woman to view their fetus in an ultrasound image are a travesty and mistreatment of women -- primarily enacted by males? Or do you believe that such laws are justified if they prevent abortions? We welcome your letters and comments.
