BENNINGTON — Rebecca Souza is the new director of nursing services at Vermont Veterans’ Home.
Souza is responsible for overseeing all aspects of clinical services, which include nursing, behavioral services, therapy services and dietician services.
Born and raised in Newport, R.I., Souza began her nursing career as a certified nurse’s aide. She completed her associate degree from Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in North Providence, R.I., and then completed her bachelor’s degree at Rhode Island College.
She also served in the U.S. Army Reserves for eight years, resigning her commission at the rank of captain. At the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, she completed her advanced practice certification in adult health.
Souza attended Salve Regina University to attain her doctorate degree, with a focus on assessing and improving nursing teamwork in the end-of-life setting.
She is a certified yoga instructor and teaches Yin yoga, a practice of holding postures for a time while integrating meditation. She is married and has three dogs, and enjoys cycling and snowboarding.
“I have spent most of my nursing career in the community setting with a special focus on caring for those with serious illnesses and at the end of life,” Souza said in a statement.
