NORTH BENNINGTON — Lake Paran will be hosting two Halloween-themed events in coming weeks. Both events are free and are family-friendly.

The first is a Full Moon Bat Chat, taking place on Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at 269 Houghton St. Local bat expert and Vermont Fish and Wildlife technician Kerry Monahan will lead a talk about Vermont bat species, followed by a night-time walk where guests will use a handheld bat detector to listen for bat calls. There will be a real bat box and a bat mount, as well as cider and other refreshments.

There will also be a program called Spooky Stories in the Dark, featuring professional storyteller Beth Tegart, on Oct. 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 269 Houghton St. Get in the spirit of Halloween with Tegart’s spooky, silly stories told around a campfire. Stories will include Halloween stories for all ages.

There will be pumpkins to decorate and s’mores to make following the storytelling. All families are asked to respect COVID precautions and to not participate if anyone is feeling symptoms of COVID-19.
