BENNINGTON — Bayada Hospice of Bennington County is holding its first Share the Warmth Blanket Drive in Bennington to benefit clients at home and in facility. All new, soft, washable blankets are welcome this time of year when so many in eldercare need that extra bit of comfort.

Bayada Hospice began the program in Rutland last year recognizing the need for both physical warmth through harsh Vermont winters but also the emotional warmth clients feel receiving a personal gift at the holidays. This year because of the added strain on the pandemic, many recipients will be unable to spend time with family so the gift of warmth and comfort is even more meaningful to them.

“Bayada is an integral part of home health, palliative, and end of life care in Bennington County,” said Shana Halliday, BSW and Bereavement Coordinator for Bennington’s Bayada Hospice, “and we are diligent providing personal touches to the care our clients receive. Last year’s blanket drive in Rutland was successful because of the generosity of Bennington County businesses and individuals, and the recipients were beyond grateful to receive their individual gifts of warmth. We want to share that warmth with our southern neighbors.”

Drop-off is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the office address at 194 North St, Suite 4, Bennington. Blankets must be received by end of business Friday, Dec. 11, in order to be wrapped and distributed by field staff for the holiday.

Donors who would prefer to drop off their blankets at curbside can call the Bennington Office at 802-442-3222. The donor can either be met at the entrance door or call to let the office know they are dropping off and the office staff will take it from there.

Bayada Hospice is a 501 (C) 3 organization that offers palliative and end-of-life care to those who qualify. Partnering with Medicare and local practitioners and caregivers, Bayada Hospice provides care response 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The three principles of compassion, excellence, and reliability are its guiding core values.
