BENNINGTON — Oldcastle Theatre Company will present its Annual Holiday Variety Show online Dec. 19–22.
The evening will include performances of some favorite holiday songs to get everyone into the spirit of the season, as well as the world premiere of a series of hilarious and heart-warming sketches called “A Covid Christmas” by long-time Oldcastle favorite Christine Decker.
Decker was inspired to write “A Covid Christmas” in response to the difficult year we’ve all shared. “This holiday season is certainly unique,” Decker said. “I wanted to write a piece that reflects that uncertainty.”
The sketches celebrate the challenges nearly everyone has experienced this year, like figuring out how Zoom works and navigating family relationships with differing political views, and might just include a visit from a familiar and beloved holiday figure.
“It’s certainly been an unforgettable year,” said Oldcastle’s artistic director, Nathan Stith, “and we wanted to find a way to bring a little holiday joy to our patrons by continuing the tradition of our Holiday Variety Show.”
The virtual performance will serve as a fundraiser for Oldcastle’s 2021 summer season, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go towards ensuring a full season of professional theatre in downtown Bennington next summer.
In addition to the sketch comedy by Decker, the evening will include performances from a host of Oldcastle regulars, including Paul Romero, Richard Howe, Natalie Wilder, Patrick Ellison Shea, Trudi Posey, Bob Zanfini, and many more.
Tickets for online show are $20 per household, and can be purchased online at oldcastletheatre.org/tickets.
