To the Editor:

Having written to the Editor in mid-October, I had to wait 30 days before submitting this letter, but I still want to thank local manufacturing plants as well as the Vermont Department of Labor and the Career Development Center for opening their doors last month and giving tours to Bennington citizens. The companies Abacus Automation, K&E Plastics, Mack Molding, and NSK Steering Systems illuminated their work and the opportunities they offer.

Despite living in Bennington for more than two decades, I knew almost nothing about what happens within those buildings that I drive past regularly. After my work in offices and as a reference librarian, I found it fascinating to see completely different work environments, as well as cutting edge equipment such as 3-D printing and robotics machines.

I thank them all for their generosity in taking the time to reach out to the community, especially they are prominent in Bennington's economy.

Lorna Cheriton,
