Sierra Club endorses Zuckerman, Ashe, other candidates
MONTPELIER — The Vermont chapter of the Sierra Club announced that it has endorsed Tim Ashe for lieutenant governor, after already endorsing David Zuckerman for governor a few weeks ago. The endorsements follow a monthslong process of candidate research, a Zoom-based gubernatorial forum, interviews, and research.
Other statewide candidates endorsed by the Sierra Club include TJ Donovan for attorney general, Jim Condos for secretary of state, Beth Pearce for treasurer, and Doug Hoffer for auditor of accounts. U.S. Rep. Peter Welch was endorsed previously, in action taken by the national Sierra Club Board of Directors, following a recommendation by the state chapter.
According to Chapter Energy and Political Chair Steve Crowley, the Lieutenant Governor race includes numerous great candidates. "Tim Ashe distinguishes himself as a candidate through his long service in the legislature, using his considerable collaborative talents to move good legislation forward. Whether it's clean water funding, global warming solutions, or tackling the transportation challenge, Tim Ashe has been a leader we can count on."
The Sierra Club also endorsed state Rep. Kathleen James in the Bennington-4 Vermont House district. She was the only Bennington County candidate among the 43 Senate and House endorsements announced.
Conservative candidates invited to meet and greet
WEST DOVER — Green Mountain Conservatives for a Better Vermont will hold a meet and greet for conservative candidates running for offices in Windham and Bennington counties, and for statewide offices. on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Layla's Riverside Lodge at 145 Route 100 in West Dover.
Among the over 20 candidates invited, John Klar and Meg Hanson have confirmed that they will attend.

Sen. Sanders endorses Zuckerman for governor
BURLINGTON — U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders has endorsed David Zuckerman's candidacy for governor, the campaign has announced.
"David has been fighting for all Vermonters for over 25 years. He has worked to raise the minimum wage, fought for workers' rights, led the passage of marriage equality and championed climate legislation," Sanders said in a statement.
"As a public servant, in both the legislature and as lieutenant governor, David has worked with grassroots organizations and brought every day Vermonters' voices to Montpelier. I am proud to endorse David and know he will continue to ensure Vermonters have an economy that works for all of us, by growing good paying Vermont jobs, fighting climate change and leading a progressive recovery out of this pandemic."
Zuckerman has also been endorsed by Our Revolution, Rights & Democracy, People for the American Way, the Vermont Sierra Club, Moms Demand Action, the Vermont AFL CIO, CWA Local 1400, AFSCME Council 93, People's Action and The Champlain Valley Democratic Socialists of America.
Siegel campaign hires former Sanders staffer as communications director
BRATTLEBORO — Brenda Siegel's campaign for lieutenant governor has hired Elizabeth Cavalieri as communications director. Most recently, Cavalieri worked for the Bernie Sanders' campaign, where she served as a part of the national advance team as a national press lead.
"We are thrilled to welcome Elizabeth to the team," Siegel said. "She brings with her a wealth of experience effectively moving a grassroots message. We are excited to add her voice to the partnership that it will take to make real change across Vermont."
Cavalieri is a community activist and political organizer. She has spent the last two years working on the campaign trail with the media covering Sanders' 2020 presidential bid.
