POWNAL -- Tuesday morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., Vermont State Police were dispatched to Route 7, just north of Jackson Cross Road in Pownal for a motor vehicle crash.

Heather Partridge, 33 of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., totaled her 2004 Honda Civic after witness Michael Andrews of Southbury, Conn., said she drifted off the western edge of the roadway and consequently rolled her vehicle onto its side.

She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

According to Andrews, after Partridge’s vehicle rolled off of the road, it started to smoke and then caught fire, at which time Andrews, along with James Belanger of North Adams, Mass., Bruce Cooper of Florida, Mass., and Timothy Criss of Shaftsbury helped Partridge exit her vehicle before it became completely engulfed in flames.

Partridge was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center by Bennington Rescue.

Pownal Fire Department responded to the scene.

Police said the state of Partridge’s injuries were unknown at the time of the report.
