Winterfest schedule of events
When: Saturday, Feb. 1
Where: Village of North Bennington
* Ice sculpture contest (beginning Friday afternoon) at North Bennington Train Station.
* Fire pit chili and Sugar on Snow and build your own hot chocolate bar at North Bennington Train Station.
* Dion Snowshoe demos by Nature's Closet
8:30 a.m. -- Registration for Penguin Plunge at Lake Paran Boat Launch; Penguin Plunge teams check in. Note: The Penguin Plunge benefits the Vermont Special Olympics, so form a team and register at www.specialolympicsvermont.org
9:30 a.m. -- Hot chocolate served by the Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce
10 a.m. -- Children's story and activity by McCullough Library
10:30 a.m. -- Zumba warm up with Andrea Malinowski at the Plunge site
11 a.m. -- Penguin Plunge
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. -- Wagon rides to help you get to all the venues throughout the village, by donation
11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. -- After Plunge Party and Chili Feast at Vermont Arts Exchange on Sage Street. $1 donation at the door. Live acoustic rock with the "Buzz Saw Boys"; More than 20 kinds of chili will be served by the NorShaft Lions; Cash bar; Massage for You by Laura Bull; Art activities.
3 p.m. -- Judging for the Ice Sculpture Contest
Noon to 4 p.m. -- Indoor Winter Carnival at Village School of North Bennington. Bouncy house; face painting; carnival games; cotton candy.
3:30 p.m. -- Winter Pet Fashion Show at Whitman's Feed Store
6 to 11 p.m. -- After Dark Dance Party at the American Legion in Bennington. Live band; DJ and karaoke.
Other events: Lunch and hot toddy specials at Kevin's; Chili Dog Special at North Bennington Variety; Snowflake Making and Drawing at Powers Market; Dog Sled Rides, weather permitting; Sleds for sledding at Lion's Park, weather permitting.
