Williamstown woman accused of role in heroin distribution operation
Sarah Turgeon, 28, of Henderson Road, and her boyfriend are accused of packaging heroin for sale in the second floor of her parent's home on Henderson Road, according to state police.
Her boyfriend, Ernest Harvin, 38, was arrested on drug charges and a slew of others -- including kidnapping and assault -- last week.
Members of the Berkshire County Drug Task Force on Tuesday conducted an early-morning search warrant at the top floor of the house, which is occupied by Harvin and Turgeon, according to a criminal complaint filed by State Police Sgt. Christopher Meiklejohn. The bottom floor is occupied by Turgeon's parents, the owners of the home.
Police allegedly discovered 300 bags of heroin packaged into bundles in a backpack, a purple handkerchief containing approximately 7 grams of heroin, and a "chunk" of loose heroin in a dresser, according to the report.
Although it was not all packaged for sale at the time, the drugs confiscated would have amounted to hundreds of 0.02-ounce bags with a street value of approximately $10 each. If the heroin is determined to weigh a total of over 18 ounces after analyzed at a state police crime lab, the couple could face trafficking charges, the police report notes.
Evidence of distribution also was also discovered, according to police, including black rubber bands, unused wax bags, rubber gloves, and a sifter -- all frequently used in the packaging of heroin. Police also seized several cellphones that will be analyzed for evidence of drug distribution.
The report also notes Harvin's record of violent crime convictions and alleged involvement with "violent street gangs."
"[Harvin] has known associates who would be willing to assist in hiding, concealing, or transporting evidence or other witnesses in an effort to foil investigators," Meiklejohn said in the report.
Harvin is currently being held on $800,000 cash bail for the distribution and kidnapping charges, and had his bail revoked in other open cases. He's due back in court on June 11.
Turgeon pleaded not guilty in Northern Berkshire District Court on Tuesday on a charge of class A drug possession with intent to distribute.
