Bennington Museum exhibit

BENNINGTON -- Bennington Museum's major exhibition of 2014 features the stunning work of two acknowledged masters of the portrait as art, Erastus Salisbury Field and Alice Neel.

Field is represented in the Museum's collection by nine portraits, all depicting sitters from Bennington County.

Works by Neel include "Isabetta," "Jenny Brand," and "Ginny and Elizabeth." Now through November 2.

Bennington Farmers' Market

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Farmers' Market will be held Saturday, July 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Riverwalk Park on Depot Street.

Join the region's farmers and producers for the best in fresh, local plants, vegetables, cheeses, meats, eggs, prepared foods, specialty items and crafts.

Scott Forrest will provide music for the market.

The market will run through October every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.


MAUMS Garden camp has openings for kids

BENNINGTON -- Growing New Roots Summer Farm and Garden Camps at Mount Anthony Union Middle School this summer still has openings for campers for the July 7-11 and July 28-August 1 sessions. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Any student who will be in MAUMS or in a 6th grade in the SVSU school district in September can attend. The cost is $50 a week, or waiver is provided if needed. Make check payable for MAUMS and indicate "summer garden camp." Transportation available at noon only to return campers to bus stops. These will be the same as MOSAIC summer program stops. Students can attend one or both sessions.

Camp is about having fun outdoors and in the school kitchen/classroom; teaching kids about food sustainability; running your own business selling produce; making science experiments, testing soil, feeding chickens and worms, using microscopes, making insect repellent; cooking your own food and sharing it with family. Bennington fireworks rain date

BENNIGNTON -- The Town of Bennington fireworks display originally planned for July 4 but postponed due to inclement weather will be held tonight at Willow Park, at about 8:45 p.m.

Family flicks under the stars

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Images Cinema will present the 8th Annual Family Flicks Under the Stars outdoor film series on the four consecutive Sundays in July.

The series includes

July 6: A Hard Day's Night

July 13: Casablanca

July 20: Mary Poppins

July 27: Jurassic Park.

Films will be shown on Morgan Lawn, at the top of Spring Street, starting at sundown. Bring your own chairs, blankets, bug spray. Concessions will be sold on location. In case of rain, films will be shown at Images Cinema at 8 p.m. Images Cinema is located at 50 Spring St.

Restorative Yoga workshop

BENNINGTON -- Come to a Restorative Yoga Workshop on Sunday, July 6, from 5:30-7 p.m. at 532 Main St.

Restorative yoga is a passive form of yoga in which bolsters, blankets and other props are used to facilitate fully supported poses for total body healing in conscious and purposeful rest. It is great practice for the overactive mind and/or body and for healing old injuries by guiding one to a place of deep relaxation and letting go. Community concert

BENNINGTON -- As part of the year-long celebration of the 250th Anniversary of St. James' Episcopal Church, Daniel Frank, Director of Music and Organist at the church, will present a concert on Sunday, July 6, at 4 p.m. Frank will play music from a number of different eras including works by Bach, Franck, King and some improvisational arrangements. This is an opportunity for the greater community to enjoy Dan's musical talents and his wide-ranging repertoire and to help St. James' and its parishioners celebrate this milestone in their history. The concert is free and open to the public.

Legion bingo

BENNINGTON -- Bingo at American Legion Post 13 is held every Sunday. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Bingo starts at 6 p.m. No one under 14 admitted.

CrossFit Basics class

BENNINGTON -- Bennington CrossFit runs CrossFit Basics every Sunday at both 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. CrossFit Basics is a completely free class, which is open to the public. In this class, we introduce you to the CrossFit methodology in a manner ideal for someone new to CrossFit.

The focus in this class is for the participants to learn proper form and technique, while finishing each class with a short, high intensity workout. Like any of our other classes, any aspect of this class can be modified to accommodate all levels of fitness. For more information, call 802-681-7350.

Bennington VFW breakfast

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington VFW Post 1332, 137 North St., hosts a senior breakfast on the first Sunday of the month beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing "until gone." Donation: $5. Call 802-442-9857 with questions.
