POULTNEY (AP) - Vermont State Police have charged a Poultney man with second-degree murder in the death of his 2-year-old stepdaughter.

Authorities say 31-year-old Dennis Duby is being held in lieu of $250,000 bond after being charged Saturday in connection with the death of toddler Dezirae Sheldon. The child died Friday at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover - two days after she was rushed to the emergency room with head injuries.

An autopsy by the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's Office determined that Dezirae died of blunt trauma injuries to the head.

Duby is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Rutland Superior Court. It was not immediately known whether he has a lawyer
