Vt. Foodbank gets $20,000 for student meal program
MONTPELIER (AP) - The Vermont Foodbank will be receiving $20,000 for a program that gives children meals to take home after school.
The money goes towards the BackPack Program, an initiative that gives students backpacks full of enough healthy, easy-to-prepare food items to last them and their families for two days.
CEO of Vermont Foodbank John Sayles says ensuring nutritional stability over the weekend and during out-of-school hours helps children to be ready to learn.
National Life Group said they will be providing the funding in an announcement Tuesday.
