Vermont utility seeks nominees for environmental award
RUTLAND (AP) - Vermont's largest electric utility is seeking nominees for the 2014 GMP Zetterstrom Environmental Award.
The award is given by Green Mountain Power to one person, business, group or non-profit to honor a significant contribution to Vermont's environment.
The award will be accompanied by a $2,500 donation to the winner's environmental cause.
GMP President Mary Powell says the award is meant to honor a special Vermonter or organization to highlight the legacy of Meeri Zetterstrom, who helped protect and restore the state's osprey population.
Zetterstrom worked with utilities to assist the ospreys by creating artificial nesting platforms and buffer zones. She also helped educate the public about the birds.
Nominations will be accepted through March 31.
