Vermont to allow continued use of special license plate

MONTPELIER, VT. >> Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin has signed an executive order extending indefinitely the allowed use of the commemorative "Vermont Strong" license plates.

The plates were issued for use on the front of vehicles as a fundraiser for recovery from Tropical Storm Irene of 2011. Allowed use of the plates had been set to expire June 30.

Shumlin says the plates have come to symbolize the state's toughness and resiliency, and he wants people to continue to be able to display them.

The executive order will remain in effect until a new governor rescinds it or the legislature revisits the issue.
