Vermont Democrats issue endorsements
MONTPELIER (AP) - Vermont Democrats are meeting to endorse their party's candidates for statewide office and to hear some remarks from a Progressive candidate for lieutenant governor.
In what is largely a formality, the state Democratic Committee will be endorsing Gov. Peter Shumlin, Congressman Peter Welch and other statewide elected officials for re-election.
At the session set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Statehouse, assembled Democrats also are scheduled to hear from Progressive candidate for lieutenant governor Dean Corren.
The state committee is not slated to take a formal vote whether to endorse the former state representative from Burlington. But Corren says he and Democrats agree on many issues, and he's asking informally for their support.
