Vehicle collides with moose on Route 9

SEARSBURG - Vermont State Police responded to a car-moose collision on Route 9 near Route 8 at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Friday, April 18.

Police said William Fairweather, 69, of Wayne, N.J., was driving a 2012 Land Rover east on Route 9 when a moose walked out into his lane of travel. Without enough time to react, Fairweather collided with the moose. The head of the adult bull moose struck the driver's side windshield and damaged the driver's door and mirror.

Fairweather was not injured, however the moose did not survive. A Vermont State Game Warden arrived on scene and removed the moose from the scene. The animal's meat was donated to a local family.
