US Rep. Welch to hear of Vt. alt transportation

BURLINGTON (AP) -- Vermont lone U.S. Rep. Peter Welch is going to be hearing from some of the state’s transportation leaders.

Welch is going to be meeting in Burlington today with Lt. Gov. Phil Scott, the chairs of the Senate and House transportation committees and Transportation Secretary Brian Searles.

There will also be leaders from transit, bike, pedestrian and regional planning organizations.

The officials will be discussing public transit and the state’s priorities for alternative transportation.

Welch is going to be asking if the officials think the federal Transportation Alternatives program has been successful in Vermont and what policies might be changed in order to support alternative transportation methods.
