Urgent care center opens in central Vermont

BERLIN (AP) - The Central Vermont Medical Center is opening a new express care center on the Barre-Montpelier Road in Berlin.

It is designed for people with minor medical problems, but it will have a laboratory and X-ray capability. It will accept all insurances.

Central Vermont President Judy Tartaglia says opening an express care center in central Vermont has been on the hospital's strategic plan since 2009.

She says the community needs a lower cost, high quality and easily accessible alternative to the hospital's emergency department. It will be open every day from noon to 8 p.m.

The hospital's emergency department will remain open at all hours.
