Undefeated Patriots grab No. 2 seed in Division one


BENNINGTON >> The Vermont state high school tennis playoff pairings were announced on Tuesday, with the undefeated Mount Anthony girls tennis team grabbing the No. 2 seed in the Division I tournament.

After completing the first undefeated regular season in program history, the 12-0 Patriots will host No. 15 seed Stowe in the first round of the tournament today at 3 p.m.

The Patriots are led by their two senior captains, Margaret Curt and Grace Page. at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, while Anna Salem, Ally White and Phebe Hall round out as solid No. 3, 4 and 5 singles players for MAU.

On the doubles side, MAU has a great duo of Thea Pappas and Cameryn Bentley as the team's No. 1 doubles pair and have a solid No. 2 doubles pair of Kaitlin Banks and Trinity Galipeau as well.

"It's been a very exciting season for us so far," said MAU coach Tatyana Case. "The girls have worked so hard and have improved so much all season and it's great to be a part of one of the best teams in school history. The girls are confident going into the playoffs and were looking forward to keeping our great season going."

The MAU boys tennis team, on the other hand, will have their first matchup of the playoffs on the road, being the No. 15 seed in the Division I pairings and will travel to face No. 2 seed Middlebury on Thursday at 3 p.m.

For the Burr and Burton girls and boys tennis teams, both squads earned the No. 4 seed in each of their respective pairings.

After going 13-3 in the regular season, the BBA boys tennis team will host No. 13 seed Burlington in the first round of the Division I tournament on Thursday at 3 p.m.

The BBA girls tennis team will have a first round bye in the Division II tournament and will host No. 5 seed MSJ in the second round on Friday at 3 p.m.
