Troy, N.Y., man wanted for child molestation back in police custody
TROY, N.Y. - A Troy man, suspected of sexually abusing three girls, is back in the custody of Florida police after he was released, "capping 14 hours of twists and turns in the case that has captured national attention," NewsChannel 13 WNYT reports.
Police in Troy have been on the lookout for Jesse P. Sawyer, 25, who is accused of molesting girls and producing child pornography. At one point, the search for Sawyer had a focus on North Adams, Mass., but authorities later dismissed that he had any ties to the city.
Ultimately, police in Pinellas Park, Fla., detained Sawyer for nearly two hours on Friday, but later released him for lack of an official arrest warrant. When police there received the official warrant, they launched a 12-hour manhunt that eventually tracked him down and resulted in his arrest.
It was unclear whether he will be extradited back to New York, according to Berkshire Eagle news partner NewsChannel 13.
