Trial starts for Vermont woman accused in double shooting
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT. >> The trial has started for a Vermont woman accused of shooting two people, one fatally, in a Bethel home.
Twenty-nine-year-old Emily Perkins of South Royalton stood trial last week on charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder.
Authorities say 48-year-old Scott Hill was found shot to death at the same time then-19-year-old Emma Jozefiak was found wounded inside Hill's home in November 2011.
Prosecutors allege Perkins visited Hill for a gun-for-drugs deal. They said Friday that the deal went awry and Perkins ended up shooting Hill and 23-year-old Jozefiak.
Perkin's attorneys have argued that a letter allegedly written by her now-deceased husband states he killed Hill — and inadvertently injured Jozefiak — because Hill made sexual advances toward Perkins.
