TE Connectivity to close North Bennington site; 36 jobs will end

NORTH BENNINGTON -- Thirty-six employees will lose their jobs over the next few months as operations are phased out at the TE Connectivity facility on Water Street.

The local facility, at 441 Water St., is just one of many run by the Scaffhausen, Switzerland-based company which has U.S. headquarters in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. The company employs nearly 90,000 employees in more than 50 countries.

"Overall this consolidation is happening just to make operations more effective," said Jane Crawford, in corporate public relations at the Pennsylvania location, who confirmed an anonymous tip The Banner received Thursday evening that the plant will be closing. She said "the effective date will vary over the next several months."

"We take this very seriously," Crawford said. "We understand the impact this has on our operations."

Crawford said the work done at TE Connectivity's North Bennington site is "general production for the networks business." This includes the design and manufacture of fiber optic cable for telecom, aerospace and marine applications.

She noted that those who lose their jobs will receive severance benefits.

According to www.TE.com, TE Connectivity (NYSE: TEL) is a $13 billion world leader in connectivity.

The company designs and manufactures electronic connections products for industries including automotive, energy and industrial, broadband communications, consumer devices, healthcare, and aerospace and defense.
