Tax Freedom Day is Saturday

BENNINGTON -- Today, April 19, is Tax Freedom Day in Vermont. The day is significant because it represents how long Americans collectively have to work to pay off the nation's tax burden.

Each state's total federal, state and local tax burden varies. Vermont is the 33rd latest state to have made the collective income to pay its portion of accumulative taxes. The date arrives for collectively for U.S. taxpayers 111 days into the year on April 21, according to the annual report released by the nonpartisan Tax Foundation.

Tax increases made for economic recovery pushed the day three days later than last year. The study found that Americans will spend more on taxes in 2014 than on food, clothing and housing combined.
