SVMC PET unit receives ACR reaccreditation
BENNINGTON -- The American College of Radiology (ACR) recently reaccredited Southwestern Vermont Medical Center’s (SVMC) Positron Emission Tomography (PET) unit. This three-year recognition means that physicians and patients can trust SVMC to provide quality imaging for patient care.
"This national recognition reinsures that SVMC consistently provides high-quality imaging for the best patient care," stated Dr. Daniel Fodor, Radiologist at SVMC. "SVMC is committed to providing top of the line care and being ACR accredited shows our commitment."
PET is a nuclear medicine test used primarily for imaging tumors and metastatic disease and mapping brain function. SVMC contracts with Insight to provide this service to our patients on Saturdays.
While the application process is very rigid it gave us the opportunity to evaluate every aspect of the program," stated Melissa Spiezio, Director of Imaging Services at SVMC. "This accreditation is yet another example of how SVMC continues to demonstrable quality and the latest technology in a community hospital setting"
The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field conduct the evaluations. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of the facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee of Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
The ACR is a national organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
SVMC is a part of Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC). SVHC is a community-based, not-for-profit health system that exists solely for the benefit of its community. SVHC has a vision to make the communities it serves the healthiest in the nation. To find out more, visit www.svhealthcare.org.
