SVMC Pediatrics welcomes Dr. Meghan E. Gunn to practice
BENNINGTON -- This August, Southern Vermont Medical Center Pediatrics and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Physician Group will grow their team with the addition of Dr. Meghan E. Gunn.
Gunn received her medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed her residency in pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass.
Gunn had been interested in pursuing a career in medicine since childhood, and her father, an emergency room physician, was a huge contributing factor in her eventual decision to become a doctor.
"Yes, I was around medicine and hospitals throughout my childhood, but, what finally motivated me to choose this path was when my father became very ill with a brain tumor."
Having dealt with a family member that had a serious illness, Gunn is extremely in tune with her patients and has a unique treatment philosophy as a medical provider.
"I became very interested in not only the science of medicine," said Gunn, "but also the emotional side. I learned that it is critical to take care of patients not only physically, but also with a focus on their social and emotional well-being."
Gunn chose to pursue pediatric medicine because she thoroughly enjoys the connections she makes with children and their families.
"I always imagined that I would work with children in some capacity," Gunn said, "I truly love pediatrics. It's so fulfilling to be a positive influence on children at such a critical period in their lives."
Gunn enjoys following her patients throughout their childhoods and watching them grow, change, and mature.
"One of the biggest rewards for me as a pediatrician is being able to follow children and families over long periods of time," she said. "I am able to take part in their growth and development."
Gunn has special interests in working with newborns, and advising in lactation support, teen sexual health, and injury prevention. She looks forward to soon joining the team at SVMC Pediatrics.
"Everyone I met when I came to SVMC was extremely friendly and made me feel right at home," said Gunn. "I look forward to working with Emily Rice and Doctor Luloff, Doctor Mann, and Doctor Thwing."
Gunn is also looking forward to returning to her Vermont roots, and raising her 6-month-old son in the area, as she and her husband both grew up in nearby Rutland.
"My husband and I always knew we would like to return to Vermont," said Gunn. "Our parents still live in Rutland, so we're excited to have our son grow up close to them."
Dr. Gunn's office will be in the Medical Office Building at 140 Hospital Dr. in Bennington. To make an appointment with her, call 802-447-3930.
