SVC speeds past Bay Path

BENNINGTON — The Southern Vermont College women's basketball team took a 17-point lead at half and cruised to an 84-62 win over Bay Path in New England Collegiate Conference play.

Four players scored in double figures for the Mountaineers, led by Chloe Longe's 17. Danielle Simmons had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Amber Dow and Shaniquewa Barnes both added 10 points. Three others, Marissa Myers, Ashley Boise and Amber Lesure all had nine points off the bench.

Bay Path was led by Elizabeth Haylette and Brenna Roy's 18 points each.

SVC is 10-8 overall and 7-4 in the NECC. They face Lesley on Saturday as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.

POWNAL >> The Pownal Cal Ripken baseball league is open to all Bennington, Pownal and surrounding area children from ages 4 to 12. Players between 9 and 12 years old can play in Massachusetts Cal Ripken state and district tournaments.

Pownal Cal Ripken offers 50/70 baseball for all major league level players.

There's no registration fee, but parents are required to sell eight raffle tickets per players with a max of 16 per family.

Sign-ups will take place on February 1, 3, and 10 at Pownal Elementary School from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
