SVC hold on to stay undefeated in the NECC


CHICOPEE, MA. — The Southern Vermont College men's basketball team had to pull out all the stops on Thursday night to improve to 8-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference, with a 87-83 win over Elms.

Senior Casey Hall was the leading scorer on the night for the Mountaineers, scoring a team-high 19 points in the win for SVC. His fellow senior teammate DeShawn Hamlet also had a big night for SVC. Hamlet had 18 points to help the Mountaineers claim their 14th win of the season

The Mountaineers had two other players in double-digit point totals on the night.

Junior Nate Goldsmith had 15 points and senior William Bromirski had 13 points on the night in the win for SVC as well.

With the win, SVC improves to 14-3 on the season.

The Mountaineers will go for win number 15 on Saturday when they travel to play Regis at 3 p.m.

Three Marauders earn first place finishes at Canajoharie Developmental meet

CANAJOHARIE, N.Y. >> The Bennington Marauders competed over this past weekend in the Canajoharie Developmental meet, where three of their swimmers earned first place finishes in the event.

Grace Burhans, Paige Marion and Emily Tibbetts all finished first in at least two events during the meet.

Burhans had a great day in the pool for the Marauders, earning first place finishes in four events. She placed first in the 100 meter freestyle, the 50 meter butterfly and the 50 and 200 meter freestyle events.

Marion won two races on the day for the Marauders, finishing first in the 100 meter backstroke and the 100 meter butterfly events.

Tibbetts rounded out the last two first places finishes for Bennington, tieing with teammate Burhans for first place in the 50 meter freestyle and winning the 50 meter backstroke event.

The Marauders will be back in action later this month, when they will compete in the Stingray Splash meet that will be held on January, 31st, at Skidmore College.

MAYAA Boys Youth Night at Mount Anthony boys basketball game tonight

BENNINGTON >> Tonight will be the Boys Youth Basketball Night at Mt. Anthony Union High School, when the Patriots JV and Varsity boys basketball teams host Otter Valley with JV action starting at 5:30 p.m., and varsity play at 7 p.m.

All boys playing in the MAYAA Basketball League will be admitted free of charge by wearing their game jerseys.

At the halftime of the JV game there will be a ten-minute exhibition game featuring two MAYAA teams.

A drawing for a basketball signed by the varsity team will be held after the exhibition game for the MAYAA participants in attendance.

JV Girls Lacrosse coach needed at MAU
