BENNINGTON — Greg Sukiennik has been appointed acting day editor of the Bennington Banner, effective immediately.

He succeeds Keith Whitcomb Jr., who has resigned from the position.

Sukiennik has been editor of the Manchester Journal since October of last year and Vermont Managing Editor for New England Newspapers Inc. since July, responsible for the Banner, the Journal and the Brattleboro Reformer. He will remain in those positions.

Sukiennik will lead the search for a new full-time day editor for the Banner, which begins immediately.

Sukiennik previously worked at ESPN.com in Bristol, Conn., at The Associated Press in Boston and at The Berkshire Eagle in Pittsfield, Mass.

"I am grateful to Greg Sukiennik for agreeing to accept the additional responsibility of acting day editor of the Banner," New England Newspapers President Fredric C. Rutberg said. "At this delicate moment, we are fortunate to have a seasoned writer and an editor who can provide steady leadership to the community while guiding our staff through a period of unexpected change."
