BENNINGTON -- Lori Congdon had been doing hair for 29 years in a number of different salons before finally settling on one: her own.

After being a contractual hairstylist, most recently at Hair N' Now in North Bennington, Congdon opened Studio 210 Salon on 210 Union St. this past July. While hairstyling had been a lifelong interest for the Bennington resident, "I decided I wanted to do it for myself," she said. In the new studio, Congdon said she was going for a relaxing, "spa treatment" atmosphere.

In addition to all hair services, Studio 210 also offers massage therapy, facials, makeup, waxings, and manicures and pedicures. Cindy Woodard is the massage therapist available at the studio, while Robin Hollister does manicures and pedicures.

An acupuncturist, Gerald Thomas, also works out of the studio by appointment.

The salon has already hosted several events and fundraisers, including a "Cut-A-Thon" last August for Natalie Rupprecht, a 3-year-old Bennington girl diagnosed with leukemia. The benefit teamed up multiple hairstylists from different area salons and raised approximately $1,000.

Studio 210 has also hosted a "princess party" for one group of young girls and a "ladies night in" evening for adults. The salon can be reserved for other private occasions like bridal parties. Spa packages combining treatments is one plan currently in the works.

Congdon said business had been busy and the location turned out to be great. While not a main thoroughfare, small businesses now dot Union Street and Congdon said previous clients made up many of her customers; while word-of-mouth provided for new ones.

"It kind of happened too easily," she said.

Paul Mitchell products used at the salon are all available for sale, alongside a small boutique with jewelry and accessories.

During last year's teachers strike, Congdon said the empty first floor building space served as strike headquarters. She said teachers had come to the spa and remarked, "wow, it looks totally different."

Studio 210 Salon offers a discount for veterans, and also caters to cancer patients looking for wig fittings or trimming. The salon is currently open for walk-ins and by appointment Monday through Saturday. For more information, search Facebook for Studio 210 Salon, LLC, or call 802-681-7356.
