Southshire students share love of reading with Applegate

Posted
NORTH BENNINGTON — Students from the Southshire Community School recently built and donated a lending library to Applegate Housing Community in Bennington.

The students will also maintain the library, along with and keep it stocked with books. They are currently looking for donations, which can be made through the school's website, southshire.org.

"They built this Little Library and another one located in North Bennington with the hopes of sharing their own love of reading with the greater Bennington Community," said Southshire Co-Director Coleen Healy.

Molly Stark Elementary School students, with the help of students from the building trades program at the Southwest Vermont Career Development Center, in the fall erected a lending library at nearby Willow Brook. Principal Michael Mugits praised that project for increasing students and families' access to books in off-school hours.

This is not the first time Southshire students have built a lending library. In 2014, under the guidance of craftsman and Southshire parent Kirk Fox, a group of students built a library for outside the school building, and a second that they intended to donate to a local business.
