Southshire Roller Derby launches first jr. derby season

NORTH BENNINGTON >> Southshire Roller Derby is hosting an information session and signup for junior roller derby at 441 Water St., March 20 at 6 p.m.

Parents and interested youth (boys and girls) ages 6 through 17 are welcome to attend. Beginning in April, SRD will start the first 10 week season. A season of derby training will be two hours per week for 10 weeks and will cover all levels of skaters this first season. Cost is $60 for the 10 week season, plus an annual $45 for the WFTDI (Women's Flat Track Derby Insurance). Southshire anticipates hosting 10 week sessions nearly year-round as well as a couple week-long day camps in the summer.

Junior skaters who pay monthly dues will pay $35 per month and the annual $45 WFTDI. Monthly dues skaters will be allowed to come skate during Southshire "open skates" as well as participate in any currently running seasons. Southshire will host at least one open skate of at least two hours per week.

Day of week and time of day for the first session has not been decided. Those in attendance at the information session will have the opportunity to share best days and times and with the coaches, for the first season starting the beginning of April.

Parents and youth who attend the hour-long information session will be welcome to observe the first 30 minutes of Southshire adult practice.

Southshire Roller Derby is a not-for-profit athletic organization focusing on roller sports training and supporting the local community's health and wellness through recreation. SRD provides skate training for all genders and ages 6 to 100.
