Southern Vermont College appoints Hashim as interim athletic director


BENNINGTON — According to the Southern Vermont College athletic website, Sharief Hashim has been appointed as SVC's new interim Athletic Director.

For the past three years, Hashim has been an assistant coach on the SVC men's basketball team, helping the team win the New England Collegiate Conference championship and make it to the NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament this past season.

Before SVC, Hashim was the head varsity basketball coach at Wheaton High School in Silver Spring, Md.

Hashim has also worked as a Recreation Specialist for the Montgomery County Recreation Department for five years and was a Park and Recreation Specialist for the Fairfax County government in Northern Virginia prior to moving to SVC.

The Maryland/DC native graduated from Columbia Union College in 2008, earning a degree in Organizational Management with a Counseling Psychology minor.

This past year, Hashim received his graduate degree in Sport Management and a Athletic Administration certificate from Southern New Hampshire University.

He also is a 2016 graduate from the 2016 NCAA Division III Institute for Administrative Advancement, a professional development program for mid-level Athletic Administrators.

When contacting SVC Sports Information Director Michael Nosek on the situating last night, Nosek said all information on Hashim becoming the school's new interim AD must go through SVC President David Evans.
