Shumlin, Leahy to mark grant anniversary

MILTON (AP) - U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy and Gov. Peter Shumlin are going to be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Community Development Block Grant program.

Since the program was created in 1974, the block grant program has awarded more than $400 million to communities across Vermont.

Leahy and Shumlin will mark the anniversary on Friday at the home of a Milton woman who helped buy her home with down payment assistance from a block grant program with the help of the Champlain Housing Trust.

They will also announce nearly $4 million in new grants.
