KINGSTON, R.I. -- At the University of Rhode Island’s 128th Commencement on May 17-18 ,about 3,000 undergraduate and 680 graduate students became the University’s newest alumni.

North Country Community College President’s List named
SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. -- Zachary Bates, of Cambridge, N.Y., was named to the president’s list for the fall 2013 and spring 2014 semesters at North Country Community College. At the May 17 commencement ceremony, Zachary received an associate degree in environmental science. Zachary will attend SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, N.Y. in the fall.
Local woman named to SVC provost list
BENNINGTON -- Andrea Sleeman of Bennington has been named to the provost list for Spring 2014 at Southern Vermont College. The provost list recognizes full-time students who have earned a minimum GPA of 3.25 during the semester.
Sleeman is a junior majoring in biological sciences. She is a graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School. Sleeman is the daughter of Kathryn and Michael Sleeman of Bennington. She is employed part-time at Centers for Living Rehabilitation, Nutrition Department, in Bennington.
Franklin Pierce University graduates local student
RINDGE, N.H. -- Allison Shea of Bennington graduated from Franklin Pierce University in the spring of 2014 with a master of business administration degree in health administration.
Local student earns honors at Skidmore
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The following local student earned term honors for the spring semester at Skidmore College.
Shirah Hill-Cohen, a member of the class of 2016. She is the daughter of Michael Cohen and Alison Hill of Manchester Center.
President’s list at Western New England University
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Matheson M. LaFlamme of Bennington has been named to the president’s list at Western New England for the spring semester of 2014. LaFlamme is majoring in finance.
Dean’s list at Western New England University
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Cayla E. Gardner of Pownal has been named to the dean’s list at Western New England for the spring semester of 2014. Gardner is majoring in elementary education-psychology.
Area student receives master’s in music
THE HAGUE, Netherlands -- Peter Edwards, the son of Steven and Nancy Edwards of Old Bennington, received his master’s degree in June. A 1996 graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School, and 2000 graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, Peter earned his master’s from the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, Netherlands. Peter successfully completed the Royal Conservatory’s "Instruments and Interfaces" Program, a collaborative program of the Royal Academy, STEIM (Amsterdam), and the Institute of Sonology. Peter is currently teaching electronic music at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and resides in the Netherlands.
Burhans graduates from Ithaca College
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Heather Burhans, a native of Bennington, graduated from Ithaca College’s School of Health Sciences and Human Performance with a degree in exercise science in May.
Roger Williams University announces Spring 2014 dean’s list
BRISTOL, R.I. -- The following local residents are among those named to the Roger Williams University dean’s list for the Spring 2014 semester. Morgan Ams, of Manchester Center, majoring in psychology; and Derek Bisaccio, of Bennington, majoring in international relations.
